After a lot of walking and the cold actually made us feel hungry. We had lunch at a restaurant along the road. It is a traditional american food outlet with a bar and they serve burgers and fries only. The stuff that makes you grow fat!
It was more sightseeing after lunch. The first stop was to the lighthouse near Tybee island. There are many forts and military installation along the beach front. It is a former navy base and they had some of the buildings preserved. There was also a live demonstration of the firing of the cannon!
The town had many old buildings especially churches. The buildings date back to the American civil war because much of the town was destroyed during the war. However, the buildings are still very old and have a European feel to it. The whole town is built around a square plot of land. The buildings are lined around the smaller square plots within the town and the plots of land houses the many city parks. There are also newer buildings to complement the old ones. It is really a beautiful town!
The old buildings give rise to many ghost tales around the town. Hence, there are many guided ghost trails around the town during the night. We happen to pass by a 'haunted house' as we toured the town. We had a peek inside and just had some fun scaring ourselves! Too bad it was too dark to take any photos.
The parks are also very nice with people and their dogs out for a stroll. The town is so scenic that it is actually one of the sites chosen for the filming of the movie 'forest gump'. The scene where forest gump said that 'life is like a box of chocolate' was filmed rigth there in the park!
