It has been a long time since I last updated the blog because it has real busy in school. Anyways, last weekend was the start of Chinese New Year. This is the first time I am spending the new year in a foreign land. It brings to light the importance of having a family and relatives to share this special time together. In a place far from home, the group of NTU singaporean students got together and had a reunion dinner. The spread of food was really huge with more than 10 dishes of all sorts. There was seafood, roasted meat and even curry!
The best part of it all is that the dinner was that is was joined in by our fellow non-chinese friends. We invited roommates and friends from school for a night of fun and cultural exchange. Most of the american friends found the food really good and they enjoyed the chinese style of cooking especially the roast meat. The highlight of any reunion dinner is of course the 'yu sheng' which is a kind of raw fish salad. The way to eat it is less than conventional. It is believed that tossing the food up higher would mean greater posperity in the new year. Once the tossing got started, it was a frenzy and the american friends got some of the action as well. However, they found it amusing more than anything!
Before the frenzy......
and after!
The crowd was so big that we nearly could not fit everyone into the room!
